With everything we do we are either moving towards balance or away from balance. Balance is not a destination that we arrive calm or harried just in time to get the prize. It is a state of being that we constantly want to be mindful, just like those of us trying for optimal health will attempt to get in 8 glasses of water and at least 6 hours of sleep daily. If I find myself on a late night Google trail to determine which store has the best price for the refrigerator I may or may not be interested in purchasing in the next year, I am choosing less balance. If my next move is to take a hot bath, I get a few more points for balance.
Once I get enough points in the balance bank to keep the scale tipped favorably, I start to feel a sense of calm on a somewhat regular basis.
If you want to move towards balance in your life, try:
- Take a walk in nature –our systems calm and ground when our feet touch the earth.
- Do something that used to bring you joy – listen to music, pick up and give yourself permission to get lost in the book on the shelf.
- Do one nice thing for yourself each day.
- Take 5 minutes to breathe in peace and breath out stress.
